Offside Sports Bar and Grill

Yass!! Isn’t it great to have a sports bar in your own city where you can hang out with friends all the time, enjoy sports in friends company while munching on delicious menu that Offside Sports Bar and Grill has? Now, everyday is match day.

‘Kala Chashma’, ‘Rio Olympics’ or ‘Suicide Squad’ weren’t the only attractions online last week. Unless you’re an ignorant soul, there’s a high chance you saw people talking, discussing and mentioning #OffsideSportBarAndGrill on social sphere. The hashtag made rounds on social media in the top trends.

My friends were discussing on Twitter about Offside Sports Bar and Grill Launch on 10th August, a day earlier. Someone posted pictures and menu, looked promising so we decided to have a meetup on the launch day.

Meetup Plan underway on Twitter!

Gone are the days we had to wait for Mann Mayal & Udaari episodes to end, Capital Talk to wrap up early so we could switch to sports channel.

Thanks to ‘Offside Sports Bar and Grill‘ now we, sports enthusiasts, can enjoy live matches with yum yum food & friend’s company with much more zest.

So the big day came. As decided,  we were supposed to be there by 7:30 which thanks to few domestic issues delayed to 8:30. Offside Sports Bar and Grill is located on main road in F11 Markaz Islamabad besides Shaheen Chemist, so didn’t take much time in locating. As I entered the place, it was jam-packed. To my surprise Islamabad had really came out on the launch. So,  it wasn’t me or my friends only, many people were longing for the sports bar’s launch and closely following the launch date. Anyway, thanks to my friends they already had my seat reserved in the corner.

Sports Bar is in the basement offers a perfect view on the road outside. There was this photobooth setup on the wall besides the entrance which I never got chance to take a picture at thanks to our selfie-curious awam. Though it isn’t a very huge hall, but enough to accommodate a good number of people. LCD screens placed at angles visible from almost all the tables so sports lovers can keep an eye on whatever is going-on while gossiping with friends.

We did the same, there was this old Football match between Pakistan & India was being aired, enjoyed the game, relived some proud moments & had patriotic feels (Pre Independence Day feels huh) we enjoyed yum yum food, burgers were okay but those Mini Pizzas were pure love, gossiped took selfies and returned back home with aim to visit back soon!

#CornettoPopRock is a series of concerts that will take place once a year in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad specifically for university students.

The concept behind this platform is to revive the pop & rock culture among the youth. The 2016 line up of performers includes maestros of the music fraternity such as Ali Azmat, Komal Rizvi, Noori, Umair Jaswal, Quratulain Baloch & Zoe Viccaji.  There will also be two spectacular wild card performances by Q from JoSh and the Pakistani superstar Ali Zafar.

The daring playfulness of Cornetto provides the young adults of Pakistan a much-needed platform to express their feelings and passions. Music is a form of art that gives expression to what cannot be put into words, as well as what cannot remain silent. Cornetto has been associated with promoting young local talent since 2008 when it partnered with leading bands to release songs, followed by Cornetto Music Icons and very recently, the much celebrated film Karachi Se Lahore.

Given the brand’s historic association with the music scenario in Pakistan, it is proud to announce Cornetto Pop Rock for the youth of the country, a platform dedicated to reviving music in Pakistan, armored with an ensemble cast of artistes unlike any other. Towards this end, university students who are also music enthusiasts looking for their big break will be taken under the mentorship of renowned music icons of the country and will be provided a chance to not only learn from them but also play with them.

Auditions for the bands were held in three cities; only to choose the most deserving talent to open the #cornettopoprock concerts. These university bands will be given the opportunity to share the stage with Pakistani legends and showcase their talent.

Pop Rock Generation wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the dynamic Mr Asad Malik (senior brand manager- Cornetto) who had the following to say on the occasion:

“Cornetto is a brand that believes in helping youth express themselves.  The most genuine form of this expression manifests itself through art forms – be it music, films, or other crafts. This year we have developed a very unique ‘pop rock’ platform which aims to rekindle the passion of music in colleges across Pakistan by combining the talents of some of the biggest musical stars of the country and giving college bands a chance to rub shoulders with them.”

Philly Meets Foodpanda: Hardee’s New Philly Cheese Stake Angus Thick Burger

Philly Meets Foodpanda

I cannot think of a relevant food quotation that catches attention of my readers in such a way like Hardee’s newest attraction “Philly Cheese Steak Angus Thick Burger” does. Here’s Philly meets Foodpanda.

Philly Cheese Steak Angus Thickburger

So here’s Philly Cheese Stake Angus Thick Burger’s first look because this just joined the party. (newest addition to Hardee’s Menu available only for Islamabad & Lahore). While people are rushing out to Hardee’s to get their hands on this buddy, FoodPanda chose some lucky ones to try this big-boy in comfort of their homes & PJs. And believe you me, it just ain’t good it’s way more than that and you have to try this to find out more.

Simply order via Foodpanda for just Rs. 890 & totally worth it. That’s what they mean when they say Philly meets Foodpanda.

The moment you open the box,  oven hot Philly cheese’s aroma takes your senses to cloud 7 and the journey to cloud 9 continues till the last bite – that’s Philly Cheese Stake Angus Thick Burger for you, with Hardee’s signature juicy beaf experience. This big boy is no less than a heaven on earth for beaf-burger-loving-foodies. That’s what they call “Eat Like You Mean it!”

While everything about Mr. Philly is almost perfect they should work on the bun-size. Because the aspiration you build looking at meal’s picture and the actual burger you get doesn’t match much. It is a good marketing skill to build high perception but under-delivering in any aspect is a big NO. Good thing that people are hooked to it for its taste but there’s nothing distinguish-ably new in the taste Hardee’s should take this into consideration.

Philly Cheese Steak Angus Thickburger

I scheduled for 9 PM Saturday and the rider was there on my doorstep at nick of the time. Oven-hot burger, fries and chilled drink. Punctuality is another plus from FoodPanda apart from bringing the best-possible-food deals from our favorite restaurants and food joints.

All in all I had a wonderful mouth-watering experience, do try and tell me how was yours?

Islamabad has changed FOOD-WAY!

King Food Festival

If you grew up in Islamabad without being called “boring” or hear your friends & cousins from other cities call Islamabad “a dead city” or socially inactive & blah blah you probably never actually lived in Islamabad.
I remember growing up here and every summers when relatives from other cities would come over and constantly remind us “what a boring place”, “how you guys live here anyway” or “see our Lahore is very happening” and this would go on. As a matter of fact we never really cared much about this or may be Islamabad had this “dead city vibe” till recent past.
But as they say the only thing constant is change. Things are changing moving and happening. Gone are the days when we used to ‘secretly envy’ Lahore and Karachi for all the parties, get together, concerts, literature festivals and last but not the least food festivals. Food is another stereotype about Islamabad. Okay fine we never had as much interest in Food as Lahoris or Karachiiets. Then again, this stereotype is also fading away with increasing trend of foodprenuership, opening up of outlets (Naan shops and chai dhabas) and franchises of renowned food brands across the capital.

IMG_0129In recent past, Islamabad has observed a paradigm shift in terms of all this non-foodie, non-happening and being boring stuff. King Food Festival is a testimonial to this fact. Organizers did an extremely good job there. Bringing foodprenuers together, giving them a platform and Islooites a chance to demonstrate their love for food. Samei, a member of the organizer’s team was quoted as saying:

“We had a very set criteria to consider the event a success. If our guests walk out of the festival happy and satisfied, then the event would be considered successful. And after calling for feedback from the people on Facebook, we realized that no amount of sales and support promotions can bring us the love and support that the people have shown. We are all proud Islamabadians today”

I saw this event on Facebook and wondered how would it turn out I mean its about food, who organizes food festivals in Islamabad. But oh boy, Islamabad did turn out. It was a calm Saturday evening in F-9 Park Islamabad, I, out of curiosity visited the place with my family and loved it. Apart from food the overall experience was pretty good. People enjoyed gossiping, variety of food nice setup for families to spend some good time, show their “Love for Food” by commenting on the brand wall, loved those beautiful hanging frames and took pictures, another attraction was the picture booth where Game of thrones theme was very nicely put, followed by Khumariyan’s performance later that evening.

Other than renowned brands like Subway, people actually loved trying out local startups like Ammi ke parathay & Nutella Bar, there were a total of about 40 food outlets present there. All in all I had a good weekend visiting King food festival. Local startups add some delicious food options to our choice list and festivals like these serve as the right platform for potential foodpreneurs to try their idea out. It goes without commending efforts of the organizers because event was very well managed hassle free from a family event’s point of view.

Shaping Davos 2016 – World Economic Forum

Curator Global Shapers Islamabad Hub, Javeria Masood jointly in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms, Pakistan, organized a dialogue of thinkers and doers of Pakistan that are actively shaping our communities. The event facilitated a productive discourse between varied stakeholders of our city, to collectively comprehend, imagine and strategically envision and design the future.

Under the theme of ‘Re-imagining the Cities of Future’, Global Shapers Islamabad hub has been selected as the four cities participating in the Annual Meeting in Davos through a live virtual session. The segment of our participation is called Shaping Davos where we will be bringing the perspective of Islamabad to a Global audience.

The local session held today at the auditorium of Planning Commission brought together the local community representatives, policy makers, political and business leaders, architects, planners, designers, non-profit organisations, tech enthusiasts, journalists, etc. A debrief of this will later be virtually shared at the Davos Summit.

The program had two major components, one is a break-out session where we in smaller but varied and rich groups collectively envisioned a better and smarter city. This lead into he second component where we will come as one group and share our propositions, strategies, insights and questions from the first part in a round table conference.

The sessions were convened by Javeria Masood (curator Global Shapers), Malik Ahmad Khan (member infrastructure and regional connectivity) and Chowdhry Anwar (chief Physical Planning and Housing).

– Influencing key community behaviors

– Engaging citizens to solve municipal problems

– Deploying technology and smart systems

Also, with Peek Freans Nankhatai, which has a nostalgic appeal; much like what Siachen has in all of us.”
